A guest post today and one that really speaks to this whole Radius80 project (the site, the stories, the music). The '80s were a good time. A fun time. Although I certainly love the technologies available today, it has taken some of the mystery out of the world. Back in the day, you had to actively pursue avenues of news and information. No instant gratification. But the effort back then was certainly worth it! Here's one example below.
As I'm looking over the images, what a time this was! Vinnie Moore's Mind's Eye, Tony Macalpine's Edge of Insanity, Dr. Mastermind, Joey Tafolla's Out of the Sun, Cacophony, Vicious Rumors' Digital Dictator, Racer X's Street Lethal, Apocrypha's The Forgotten Scroll! A printed catalog of some of my all time favorites!
To borrow a phrase...Ah, the memories.

In the days before web sites, digital music distribution, and online catalogs, you found out about an independent music label's artist roster and available releases, i.e., the "in print" releases, by writing a letter to the label and requesting a copy of their catalog. It was usually printed on paper, with basic black-and-white interiors, and sent to you via snail mail. Here's my favorite from that era -- the Shrapnel Records catalog, circa 1987.
Ah, the memories.
